Installing and Licensing Ansys Software (unfinished)
This article is an overview of how to download, install and configure AGI/Ansys software: STK, ODTK, Scheduler, ModelCenter, etc. If you have any questions not answered in this or the linked documents, please don't hesitate to submit a support ticket through [our support system]. For Blacknight or other software, please reach out to [our support or sales team]
This tutorial is broken into four steps.
1. Request and download your license.
2. Download software
3. Install your software.
4. Configure your license.
1. Request and download your license:
If you do not have any active Ansys licenses, you will need to request them Blacknight Space. This process is covered in the [How to Get a License for BKS Products] article in our support system.
2. Download software:
Download any relevant software as a .zip file from the Ansys Downloads page to the machine that will be using the software. Note: For SOLIS and controlled software, you will need to request the install directly from AGI support (support@agi.com.)
- Open the [AGI Downloads Page] in a web browser. If you do not already have an account, you will need to make an AGI account to access the page.
- Download the desired software as a .zip file. As a note, Windows STK and ODTK come in the same download. Be sure to select the "STK ODTK Premium" if you are using STK Premium Space or Air (Astrogator, Aviator, EOIR, etc.)
Note: Unlike previous versions, as of 2025 R2, just install "STK ODTK Premium," rather than installing Pro first, then installing premium.
- Download additional media as needed. STK Scheduler, RF Channel Modeler, and ModelCenter are all available to download from the AGI Downloads Page.
3. Install your software:
Unzip the download folders and run install.exe. The Ansys Downloader will start up and walk you through the install process. If you are using STK plugins - RF Channel modeler, SOLIS, and Scheduler - install STK first, then install the plugins.
4. Configure your License:
Ansys software is typically licensed with the Ansys License Management Center app, which hosts Ansys licenses either locally or on a server which multiple users can connect to. For Web Licensing - which was released in 2026 R1 - Ansys hosts the license server. This can be convenient for organizations working across multiple locations/offices, and for licensing VMs and containers.
On the client side, users connect to a license server with the Ansys Client Licensing Settings app, which can connect to the Ansys License Manager (either locally hosted or on a server/VM) or the web license server.
Depending on your configuration, see the links below for guidance on setting up your software licenses:
[Ansys Licensing Guide - Web Licensing] - "New" licensing process, faster setup, access licenses from anywhere, and share licenses between multiple offices.
[Ansys Licensing Guide - License Server] - "Traditional" licensing process, good for single licenses, local licenses, and secure/air gapped environments.

Troubleshooting:
Installer won't run:
If you are having issues running the installer, first double-check your firewall/antivirus settings. You may need to temporarily disable your antivirus.
If this doesn't work, check if the path to your install.exe has spaces in it, as this sometimes causes issues. For example, if your installer is at:
"Downloads/STK Installs/Ansys_STK_ODTK_v13.1.0/install.exe,"
Try editing to:
"Downloads/STK_Installs/Ansys_STK_ODTK_v13.1.0/install.exe"
