Preparing Tomorrow's Space Operators
Blacknight Space exercise offering provides a collaborative training environment where coordinated exercises expose teams to simulated situations they will likely encounter as they support and participate in real world space domain operations.
Simulated Space Operations & Decision Support Training Tool
Games are configured with situations where teamed participants may play the parts of protectors or aggressors. Both teams maintain their own objectives while an exercise coordinator oversees and facilitates the entire exercise, with opportunities to inject unanticipated conditions and circumstances which teams must react to or plan against to successfully accomplish the exercise objectives.
Participants must put their space ops knowledge to the test and demonstrate an understanding of ground station tasking, processing orbital tracking data, and strategically planning spacecraft maneuvers to protect their space assets and meet mission objectives. Teams must work together to support common space domain activities such as:
- Rendezvous
- Counter Space Protection
- Avoidance Maneuvering
- Tracking/Detection

Shadow Chase
In this ‘Cat and Mouse’ style game, red and blue teams play the parts of aggressor and defender, respectively. Red team players work together to maintain knowledge of their target satellite and plan maneuvers to maintain their position within a specified distance to their target. The blue team must work to maneuver in ways to maintain a safe separation from their aggressor.

Silent Window
Teams play the role of a spy satellite ‘lurking’ in GEO near their target’s proximity. Ground sensors are able to focus on the high value asset during certain periods of time, during which the spy satellite would be detected. The goal is to move in and out of proximity only when ground sensors are unable to detect your movements. The successful ‘spy’ will be the one who spends the most time next to their target without being caught!

Collision Course
A non-operational piece of space junk is heading right for your satellite! Teams must create a maneuver plan that maximizes their safety from this potential collision while also minimizing fuel. Once the collision has been avoided, teams must then return their satellite to its original orbital position and formation with its co-planar counterparts. Time is of the essence!

Cloak & Dagger
Red teams must use precise pointing of a ground laser to disable the blue team’s satellite, however the blue team has advanced warning and will try to maneuver out of the area of intended attack between tracking windows, successfully evading their attacker’s attempts. Managing fuel budget and successfully avoiding the attack will result in victory for the blue team.
